Impact on the Courts
Credo Mlaba on Access and Diversity
Credo Mlaba, chairman of the Legal Practice Council in KZN, praised Jappie for making the courts more efficient and accessible. Working with his deputy, Justice Mjabuliseni Madondo, Jappie created more chances for lawyers—especially black lawyers—to act as sitting judges. This helps young lawyers gain experience and strengthens the pipeline for future judicial appointments.
Advocates’ Perspective
Griffiths Madonsela SC, speaking for Advocates for Transformation, said Jappie’s appointments and promotions were never controversial. Everyone agreed on one thing: he was a nice guy. Madonsela urged judges to follow Jappie’s example of humanity and compassion, saying we need judges who are empathetic and humane.
Conclusion
Judge Achmat Naeem Jappie is remembered as a calm, kind leader who treated everyone with dignity. His work made the courts fairer, more open and more trusted by the people. The tributes show his colleagues hope that his example will inspire future judges to lead with the same respect, patience and compassion.
