The Rand Show: Easter’s Biggest Party

If you think Easter is just about chocolate, you haven’t been to the Rand Show. Running since 1894, this is Joburg’s legendary Easter tradition. It’s not your average school fair—think massive live music stages, a dedicated tech and gaming arena, and enough food stalls to make you wish you had three stomachs.

The ticket price gets you into a ton of stuff. The absolute must-see is The Big Bounce, a rugby-field-sized inflatable castle that’s basically a giant adult playground. Also new and huge is Jungle Magic, an entire hall transformed into a wild sensory experience with giant creatures, an indoor waterfall, and a “brave zone” where you can actually touch creepy crawlies. Perfect for those epic Instagram stories.

Field Berry Farm: Pick, Hunt, Eat

Swap the crowds for berry fields. At Field Berry Farm, the Easter egg hunt is less of a frantic scramble and more of a chill scavenger hunt. Find three coloured stones hidden in the raspberry patches and trade them for chocolate. After that, grab a punnet and pick your own late-season raspberries.

Hang out at the food stalls, try their raspberry frozen yoghurt or craft beer, and do the Guided Easter Story Walk if you want a quieter moment. It’s a solid spot for a family group hangout or a cute date.

Trés Jolie: Gardens, Eats & Egg Hunts

Trés Jolie is that perfect countryside restaurant with gorgeous gardens, fountains, and space to sprawl. They always have kid stuff like pony rides and jumping castles, but for Easter they add daily egg hunts and live music on the weekend.

It’s less about a packed schedule and more about a long, lazy lunch. Fuel up on wood-fired pizza, burgers, or a stacked breakfast, then chase it with a milkshake. The egg hunts are at 10am and 2pm, so you can plan your day around a good meal.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

The Pretoria Youth Theatre brings Roald Dahl’s classic to life with songs from the movies, including “Pure Imagination.” It’s at Theatre on the Square in Sandton, with three shows on Easter Saturday (4 April).
