ANC KwaZulu‑Natal Boosts Grassroots Renewal

What’s Happening?

The African National Congress in KwaZulu‑Natal is launching a renewed push to reconnect with ordinary people. Leaders, volunteers, and local structures are being asked to go back into neighbourhoods, listen to residents, and strengthen political mobilisation as part of a wider organisational rebuilding effort.

Community Engagement in Ward 04, eThekwini

Where and When

The drive was highlighted during a community meeting in Ward 04 of the eThekwini region. The gathering took place at the Michael Gwala Community Hall in Ntshanga and drew a crowd of residents, ANC members, alliance partners, and supporters.

Who Spoke?

James Nxumalo – Provincial Task Team Coordinator

Nxumalo reminded attendees that the upcoming 4 November election is a chance to defend democratic gains. He stressed that the ANC accepts the duty to renew itself and restore its dignity through visible leadership and hard work on the ground.

Sifiso Sonjica – Provincial Spokesperson

Sonjica explained that the Ward 04 meeting is part of the ANC’s broader renewal programme, which aims to boost the party’s presence at the grassroots level.

Key Messages from the Leaders

  • Return to the People: Leaders must leave offices and spend time in communities.
  • Visible Leadership: Trust is rebuilt by being seen and active on the ground.
  • Political Mobilisation: Strengthening local branches and structures to encourage voter participation.
  • Guarding Democratic Gains: Voters are urged to support the ANC on 4 November to protect the progress made since 1994.
  • Warning Against Rivals: Nxumalo cautioned that parties seeking to unseat the ANC must present credible transformation and development plans.

Alliance Support

Cosatu’s Voice

Edwin Mkhize, Cosatu Provincial Secretary, praised the ANC‑led alliance and paid tribute to liberation struggle icons like Chris Hani. He highlighted that the struggle was built on unity, sacrifice, and a fight for justice—not for personal gain.

Mkhize called for tighter cooperation between the ANC and Cosatu to defend workers’ rights and continue the emancipation of the oppressed.

Looking Ahead

The ANC in KwaZulu‑Natal says its renewal programme will keep focusing on:

  • Rebuilding community trust through accountable leadership.
  • Increasing grassroots engagement and outreach.
  • Ensuring that party structures are active, responsive, and aligned with the needs of ordinary South Africans.

Conclusion

By taking the conversation back to the streets, the ANC hopes to revive its connection with the people of KwaZulu‑Natal. The emphasis on visible leadership, active mobilisation, and alliance unity shows a clear path forward as the party prepares for the upcoming election and works to strengthen democracy at the local level.
