Your Ultimate Easter Weekend Guide: Joburg Events for Teens
Big-Scale Fun & Festival Vibes
The Rand Show: Easter’s Biggest Party
If you think Easter is just about chocolate, you haven’t been to the Rand Show. Running since 1894, this is Joburg’s legendary Easter tradition. It’s not your average school fair—think massive live music stages, a dedicated tech and gaming arena, and enough food stalls to make you wish you had three stomachs.
The ticket price gets you into a ton of stuff. The absolute must-see is The Big Bounce, a rugby-field-sized inflatable castle that’s basically a giant adult playground. Also new and huge is Jungle Magic, an entire hall transformed into a wild sensory experience with giant creatures, an indoor waterfall, and a “brave zone” where you can actually touch creepy crawlies. Perfect for those epic Instagram stories.
When: 2–6 April at Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec.
Cost: Opening day R50 all ages. Other days R120 adults, R90 kids (3–12)/pensioners. Under 3s free. There’s a family special: two adults + two kids for R340.
Outdoor Adventures & Fresh Air
Field Berry Farm: Pick, Hunt, Eat
Swap the crowds for berry fields. At Field Berry Farm, the Easter egg hunt is less of a frantic scramble and more of a chill scavenger hunt. Find three coloured stones hidden in the raspberry patches and trade them for chocolate. After that, grab a punnet and pick your own late-season raspberries.
Hang out at the food stalls, try their raspberry frozen yoghurt or craft beer, and do the Guided Easter Story Walk if you want a quieter moment. It’s a solid spot for a family group hangout or a cute date.
When: 4–5 April, 9am–3pm.
Cost: R110 per child (includes hunt + picking), R60 per adult. Booking is essential.
Food, Chill Vibes & Extra Activities
Trés Jolie: Gardens, Eats & Egg Hunts
Trés Jolie is that perfect countryside restaurant with gorgeous gardens, fountains, and space to sprawl. They always have kid stuff like pony rides and jumping castles, but for Easter they add daily egg hunts and live music on the weekend.
It’s less about a packed schedule and more about a long, lazy lunch. Fuel up on wood-fired pizza, burgers, or a stacked breakfast, then chase it with a milkshake. The egg hunts are at 10am and 2pm, so you can plan your day around a good meal.
When: 3–6 April, 9am–5pm. Egg hunts at 10am & 2pm.
Cost: Entry for restaurant patrons (booking recommended).
Theatre & Shows (Not Just for Kids)
Musicals, Circus & Classics
Joburg’s theatre scene is surprisingly stacked this long weekend if you need a break from the sun.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
The Pretoria Youth Theatre brings Roald Dahl’s classic to life with songs from the movies, including “Pure Imagination.” It’s at Theatre on the Square in Sandton, with three shows on Easter Saturday (4 April).

Shrek The Musical JR.
High-energy, funny, and interactive. This is the story of the green ogre we all love, with two shows daily over the Easter weekend at the Joburg Theatre complex.
Book: peoplestheatre.co.za | Tickets: from R180
The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark
A gentle, beautiful adaptation of the classic book. Perfect if you’re looking for something sweet and reassuring (or if you still get a bit scared of the dark yourself). At the National Children’s Theatre in Parktown.
Book: nctt.org.za | Tickets: R100–R150
Once Upon a Time: Easter Edition
This is a circus-theatre mash-up with acrobatics, aerial acts, and fairytale characters. In this special version, the audience helps find the missing eggs to save Easter. It’s at The Cirk in Cresta Shopping Centre.
Book: thecirk.co.za | Tickets: R200–R290
Wrapping It Up
Johannesburg’s Easter scene is all about choice. You can go massive at the Rand Show, get rustic at a berry farm, chill at a garden restaurant, or get cultured at a theatre. The key is mixing it up—maybe hit the Big Bounce one day, catch a show the next, and top it off with some raspberry treats.
Most places are getting booked fast, so check the websites and grab tickets or reservations ASAP. Whether you’re after hype, relaxation, or a bit of both, there’s an Easter plan waiting. Just remember to pace yourself—there’s a lot of chocolate and pizza ahead.
