Thamsanqa Ntuli Speaks at Moonsamy Family Funeral
A Tragic Loss in Dukuza
On Sunday, Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli gave an emotional speech at the mass burial of seven members of the Moonsamy family in the Dukuza municipality. He called the killings a “devastating blow” that shook the conscience of KwaZulu‑Natal.
What the Premier Said
Condolences and Respect
Ntuli expressed sympathy on behalf of the provincial government and all residents. He stressed that the victims were not just numbers—they were a beloved family whose lives were “violently and senselessly cut short.”
Condemnation of the Crimes
The premier strongly denounced the kidnapping, rape, and murder, describing them as an attack on humanity and the values that underpin South Africa’s democracy. He noted the painful irony that the tragedy occurred during Freedom Month, a time dedicated to promoting human rights and dignity.

Police Response
Arrests and Evidence
Ntuli praised the swift action of the South African Police Service. Three suspects—aged 21, 26, and 28—appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court on Friday. Police continue to search for two more suspects, have recovered a stolen vehicle, and seized important evidence.
Message to the Community
The premier said the arrests send a clear signal: those who commit violent crimes will be pursued and brought to justice.
Call for Community Action
United Against Crime
Ntuli urged residents to break the silence, isolate criminal elements, and report wrongdoing. He highlighted that the government has mobilized community members to sign petitions opposing bail for the accused, showing a united stand against the perpetrators.
Building Safer Neighborhoods
He warned that criminals thrive in environments of fear and division, and stressed the importance of unity in fighting lawlessness. The premier reiterated the province’s commitment to strengthen crime prevention through closer cooperation between law enforcement and the KwaZulu‑Natal Department of Community Safety and Liaison.
Looking Forward
In closing, Premier Ntuli assured the grieving family that the government will support their pursuit of justice. He said the memory of the victims should inspire everyone to work toward building safer, more resilient communities across KwaZulu‑Natal.
