Movement Vows to Intensify Nationwide Marches
Leader’s Death Sparks Outcry
The March and March movement says it will increase its activities after the fatal shooting of its leader, Andile Mvuyelwa Somgxada. He was killed outside his home in Greenfields, Ekurhuleni, on July 4, 2026, and died in hospital on July 9.
Threats Against Other Leaders
National spokesperson Sandile Dube warned that several other movement leaders have received warnings or death threats. He said the threats come from people who profit from extortion and protection fees charged to undocumented foreigners involved in illegal businesses.
Calls for Police Action
Dube urged law‑enforcement agencies to investigate the killings and threats, warning that the situation could create unnecessary tension in communities if left unchecked.
Regional Leaders Also Targeted
He added that the regional leader in Tshwane received warnings after a march in Mamelodi on July 9. Similar threats have been reported in Umlazi township (KwaZulu‑Natal) and in Mpumalanga province, all aimed at March and March organizers.
Movement Steps Up Despite Danger
Despite the risks, Dube announced that the movement will step up its Thursday marches across the country, with a special focus on Gauteng. He noted that the province has strong resistance and a high number of undocumented foreigners, which the movement views as a key area for its protests.
Message to South Africans
The movement called on all South Africans to stand against drug cartels, extortionists posing as security firms, drug dealers, and human traffickers whose operations are disrupted by the marches. Dube also asked the public to honor Somgxada’s life and legacy as a committed, peace‑loving patriot.
Memorial and Funeral Plans
A memorial service for Somgxada is expected later this week in Gauteng, while his funeral will be held in the Eastern Cape, pending confirmation from his family.
Conclusion
The March and March movement remains determined to continue its nationwide protests, even after losing its leader to violence. By raising awareness about extortion, drug trafficking, and human smuggling, the group hopes to inspire communities to protect themselves and remember Somgxada’s contribution to the cause.
