Nigerian Police Detain 33 Individuals in Connection with the Kwara Church Worshippers’ Abduction

Date:

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) announced it has detained 33 members of a gang linked to the violent assault on Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, Eruku, Kwara state, last November.

Anthony Placid, the force headquarters’ public relations officer, revealed in a Tuesday statement that the suspects are among 50 people connected to terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery. He explained that these arrests followed a strategic crackdown on criminal syndicates threatening national peace since January.

Placid noted that several main suspects are prepared for court prosecution, and police are actively searching for additional accomplices and illegal weapons. On November 18, gunmen stormed the church, killed three worshippers, and kidnapped 38 others.

A video from a live stream, viewed by The Cable, captured worshippers in mid-service as gunshots rang out around the church grounds. Days later, President Bola Tinubu posted on X that all abducted worshippers from Eruku had been rescued.
