Notorious criminal Sifiso “Coach” Malwane was killed in a botched robbery

Date:

Who Was Sifiso “Coach” Malwane?

Sifiso Malwane, also nicknamed “Coach” or “Mlungu,” was one of the most feared criminals in the KwaZulu‑Natal region. He was on the police’s most‑wanted list for a string of vehicle thefts and several murders.

Crimes He Was Wanted For

Authorities linked Malwane to:

  • Numerous car‑jackings and thefts.
  • The killing of cross‑border crime fighter Sipho Juda Mthethwa.
  • The murder of traditional healer James Mthembu.

His brother, Musa Malwane, was wanted alongside him for the same offenses.

The Botched House Robbery

On April 19, 2026, Sifiso and Musa tried to rob a house in the Thengani area near Emanguzi Police Station. They entered with guns and demanded the homeowner’s vehicle keys. The resident fought back, grabbed his own firearm, and shot at the intruders. Sifiso was hit, wounded, and fled the scene with his brother.

Discovery of the Body

The next day, the Emanguzi Cross Border Intervention Team got a tip about a body illegally dumped in Umgodiwemvubu. Investigators found the corpse, identified it as Sifiso Malwane, and learned that Musa had brought the body there for a secret burial. Police later exhumed the remains for forensic examination.

Search for Musa Malwane Continues

With Sifiso dead, police have intensified the hunt for Musa. He remains at large and now faces an additional charge of contempt of justice, adding to his already long list of violent and transnational crimes.

What Happens Next?

The investigation is still active. Officers are following leads, reviewing surveillance footage, and urging anyone with information about Musa’s whereabouts to come forward. The case highlights how quickly a criminal spree can end when victims defend themselves, but also shows the ongoing danger posed by those still on the run.

Stay informed, stay safe, and remember that reporting suspicious activity can help keep communities protected.
