What Happened?

On Monday afternoon, two women were fatally shot in Gebane town, located in the Zinkumbini A/A area of the Eastern Cape. The first victim, a 44‑year‑old security guard, was walking home from her job at a local school when she encountered two unknown men. One of the men opened fire, causing her to run toward a nearby farmstead.

While fleeing, she reached the farm where a 65‑year‑old woman was staying. The gunman followed her and continued shooting at both women. Both victims succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Vukile Ntuli condemned the attack, calling it a brutal act of violence that has left the community in shock. Police spokesman Captain Welile Matyolo explained that the shooting occurred around 4 p.m. and that investigators are treating the case as a priority.
