Renishaw Solstice Race: A New Adventure on the KZN South Coast

What’s Happening?

On Saturday, June 20, the Crocworld Adventure & Conservation Center will host the inaugural Renishaw Solstice Race. This event kicks off a brand‑new network of coastal‑forest trails that are perfect for running, mountain biking, hiking, and more.

Where Is It?

The trail system sits in the Renishaw Coastal Precinct, just outside Scottburgh. From the start at Crocworld, riders and hikers can weave through native coastal forests, follow river corridors, cross open grasslands, and enjoy sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

Who Built the Trails?

Badger’s Cycling and Sports Center (CSC) designed the routes. Their bike shop recently moved to the entrance of Crocworld, making it easy to grab a bike or gear before heading out. Jason Scott from Badger’s CSC says the network is always growing, with new sections added regularly.

Trail Options for Everyone

Even while some parts are still under construction, you can already try loops of:

• 5 km – a quick, fun spin
• 10 km – a solid workout
• 20 km – a moderate challenge
• 40 km – a longer endurance ride

All routes start and finish at Crocworld, mixing smooth sections, technical bits, varied terrain, and gorgeous coastal scenery.

The Race Details

The Renishaw Solstice Race is the flagship event of the day, hosted by the Scottburgh Cycling Club and sponsored by the Renishaw Coastal Precinct. It’s part of the KwaZulu‑Natal Mountain Biking Series and has earned the status of a KZN Super Classic Race.

Main Mountain‑Bike Course

• Length: 45 km
• Elevation gain: about 1,000 m
• Features: single‑track forest paths, coastal trails, dirt roads, technical descents, tough climbs, and panoramic views of the ocean and countryside

This course will test even experienced riders while offering plenty of breathtaking sights.
