UPDATE | Suliman Carrim testimony postponed following hospitalisation

Date:

What Happened to Suliman Carrim?

North West businessman Suliman Carrim was supposed to give his testimony at an inquiry this week, but things took an unexpected turn. After a medical emergency at a gym in Sandton, he ended up in the hospital and could not appear as planned.

Why the Testimony Was Postponed

The inquiry’s evidence leader, Adv. Mahlape Sello, explained that Carrim is still receiving medical care and is not fit to testify. She said that Adv. Matthew Chaskalson, who is handling the case for the inquiry, has been in touch with Carrim’s lawyers and agreed to move his appearance to a later date.

Gym Incident in Sandton

The medical issue occurred while Carrim was working out at a gym in the Sandton area. Details about the exact nature of the emergency have not been made public, but it was serious enough to require hospitalization.

What the Inquiry Said

Commission chairperson Mbuyiseli Madlanga granted the postponement and confirmed that a new subpoena will be issued for the revised date. The inquiry will wait until Carrim is well enough to attend.

Next Steps

Carrim’s testimony is now scheduled for April 29, assuming his health improves by then. The inquiry plans to resume with his evidence at the end of the month, pending his recovery.

Conclusion

The delay shows how health can unexpectedly affect legal processes. While the inquiry moves forward, everyone involved hopes Carrim recovers quickly so he can share his side of the story. Until then, the case remains on hold, with a new date set for late April.
