In the Welbadacht East neighborhood outside Durban, a 30‑year‑old man and his 30‑year‑old wife were found guilty of horrific crimes against a young girl. The victim, who was just 10 years old when the abuse began, is the biological sister of the wife. After her mother passed away, she moved in with the couple, hoping for a safe home.

The Years of Abuse (2021‑2023)

During the three years they lived together, the girl endured:

  • Repeated physical attacks
  • Severe neglect and deprivation of basic needs

How She Got Help

During a power outage, the girl managed to slip out of the house and ran to a neighbor for help. The neighbor called the police, and authorities took her to the RK Khan Thuthuzela Care Center. There she received medical treatment, counseling, and psychosocial support.
