Severe hailstorms hammered the Karos, Leekrantz and Lambrechtsdrift areas, smashing roofs, breaking windows and leaving many homes unsafe. The sudden ice barrage added to the struggles families already face in the region.

Flood Fallout

At the same time, heavy rains caused flash floods in the Joe Morolong informal settlement near Kuruman. Water swept through streets, damaging houses and threatening the safety of residents who live in makeshift shelters.

Who Asked for Assistance

Provincial and Local Partners

The Northern Cape Provincial Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) reached out first. Soon after, the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality and the Dawid Kruiper Municipality disaster management teams also submitted requests for aid. The Kuruman Disaster Management Center added its voice, urging help for the flood‑hit settlement.

What’s Being Done

Aid Distribution Plan

Gift of the Givers confirmed that humanitarian supplies—blankets, food parcels, hygiene kits and temporary shelter materials—will begin distribution tomorrow. Teams are already on the ground, coordinating with local officials to reach the most affected families quickly.
