Separate Incident: Firearm Arrest in Wesbank

What Happened?

In the early hours of Sunday, June 14, members of the Public Order Police (POP) were doing stop‑and‑search operations on Swartkop Road in Wesbank. During the search they found a 9 mm pistol with six rounds of ammunition on a suspect.

Why Was He Arrested?

The suspect did not have a firearms license. Possessing a gun and ammunition without a permit is illegal, so he was arrested on the spot.

Charges Filed

The man faces two charges:

  • Illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm
  • Illegal possession of ammunition

He is expected to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court shortly after his arrest.

Conclusion

The Western Cape police are working on two important cases: locating Naomi Gaynor Bernes and addressing illegal firearm possession in the community.
